Lady's Launch Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

flynnsbeach: Hi All,

Checked on this cache today as part of some routine maintenance and it, appears, that it has indeed been buried by recent construction under tonnes of new rock and gravel added to the location,

Too bad as it is a beautiful area nearby and a nice general location for a cache.

We'll check back periodically in case any digging ever does turn it up again, but for now it will be archived.

I've had a few stolen, one washed away, and some simply go missing but this is the first geocahe I have ever had turned into a figurative (and in this case literal) buried treasure.

Thanks to those who reported it missing,

We'll go out and hide a replacement soon...but not in the same spot :)

Have a great day,

Flynnsbeach

Geocache Description:

Schooners were built in this area and hauled out on the ice in order to "launch" them when the spring arrived. Most notable of these was the "Lady Norman", hence the cache title, "Lady's Launch" :) There are at least 18 geocaches within a six mile radius of Colliers so that fact (plus the beautiful scenery) makes it definitely worth a trip out from the city.

Found in scenic Colliers, Newfoundland, the view from this ocean area is great.

Note that the NEW coordinates are:

47 27.757N
053 13.464W

This should be a short walk and a pretty easy find. Figured we should have at least one quick cache in there somewhere :)

Drive to the end of the "North Side" Road. Park at the pavements end. Bring a camera. Get a picture of the landscape or maybe historic "Whelan House" nearby.

Please don't even think about climbing up or down the cliffs to Man O' War Ridge Cache AT ANY TIME regardless of personal expertise. There is no safe path from the beach up the cliffs. Don't say we didn't warn you :) Take your time and enjoy the great coastal views of Colliers Harbour instead :)

The cache itself is a small white beef bucket hidden under stones. Please rehide it carefully as is an area that gets a number of spectators at times.

This is the eighth in a series of caches being hidden by Flynnsbeach and Bittensticks. Make note of the codewords in the logbooks as there will be a special prize for those geocachers who find ANY TEN of them :)

Care and caution is (as always) advised as the surrounding
rocks can be very slippery when wet, snow covered or icy. Don't head up the cliffs or out in the beach...regardless of what individual GPS readings may say. The cache is NOT anywhere near the cliffs or the ocean.

Cache contents at the time of hiding were:

Travel Bug
Log Book
Pencils
First Finders Certificate
Tennis Ball
Skate Board
Winnie the Pooh Pencils
Toy Cars
Decorative Glass Trinkets
Toy Combat Planes

Good Luck !!!!
