Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted coordinates!

We were inspired by a similar cache while on a trip to Columbus, OH last fall. This hunt involves exploring the main street of Beaver, PA. The total walk is over one mile, but the terrain is mostly flat. Once you find all of the locations, you will need to drive to a local park to grab the cache.

There are but a few towns in the area where you can take a nice walk, grab something to eat, and do a little shopping. Whether you would like running supplies, children's clothes, a great lunch or a nice hot cup of coffee, you can find it all during a walk through Beaver, Pennsylvania. The coordinates above will take you to your first landmark. There is metered and free parking along the streets and a nearby free parking garage.

You will need to print this cache page and take it with you, noting the required information and doing some basic math along the way. After a scamper through town, you will need to drive off to the cache location.

The final location of the cache is:
N 40° AE.CDG
W 080° EF.BBH

To find the numerical values for the letters proceed to the coordinates at the top of the cache page. There you will find a war memorial. It was dedicated by the Vietnam Veterans of America on September 20, 2002. What is the chapter number of the veterans association that dedicated this memorial? If you take the first digit of the chapter number and divide it by the last digit of the chapter number you will have A.

Walk East on the North side of Third Street. You will soon pass a local bakery that has been delighting the county with delicious goods for decades. What is the street address of the bakery? Take the first digit of the address and add 3 to it. Now you have B.

Continue East on the North side of Third Street. You must be getting hungry by now. If you want you can grab a sandwich that has origins in a larger city, the city of brotherly love. Now take a look at the year the shop was established. Subtract 5 from the third digit of the year. Now you have the value for C.

Cross over to the South side of Third Street and proceed West toward your starting point. Every town needs police and some good old fashioned Municipal Authority. In what year was their building built? The third digit of the year is D.

Continuing West, you won’t be able to avoid noticing a bell under a shelter. Please note the time on the clock above the bell. Also, check out how long in years that the bell “tolled the hours.” Checking out the time is for your own benefit – we don’t want you to be late for anything. As for the years: The second digit from the right is E.

You’re almost there. Now you just need to continue West on Third Street and check out the Soldiers and Sailor in the park across from the new Courthouse. In what year was the monument first dedicated? The third digit in the year is F. The second digit is G. The first digit plus 5 is H.

Now you have the coordinates for the cache! The cache should be accessed by walking through a public park, not through residential property. Also, if you choose the right path, you will find that the cache requires minimal tangling with undergrowth. Please hide the cache carefully – it is not in a “deep woods” location as we wanted to keep the terrain more urban and simple.
