Geocache Description:

A cache of the LOTR theme, at Edoras - inland Canterbury.

This cache is placed beside a public road with the best view to Mt Sunday where the great Rohan City of Edoras was filmed in 2000. I was an extra in "The Two Towers" film, and participated for three days on location. (If you really want to know, I am visible in the film).

The whole point of this cache is for you to get to this viewing spot - and maybe visit Mt Sunday itself, so I have made the cache easy to find. Mt Sunday is now on DOC reserve land, but you need to cross private land to reach Edoras. DOC have placed a line of red-topped marker poles, which you should follow to get to the actual Edoras filming locations.

From Edoras, you can see across the valley to the Helms Deep 4*4 cache site.

The cache is a black 200ml snaplock box, hidden under a small cairn of rocks beside prickly shrubs, 6 metres uphill of the middle of the road, and 21 metres northwest of the stream culvert. Please be very careful about replacing the rocks, as heavy stones can easily crack a frozen plastic box.

It would be great if cache visitors could try and keep up the LOTR theme with their swaps - there would be room for magic rings!!!!
