Cache is located in the former fishing village of Port Coldwell - now a ghost town.
Cache is a medium sized peanut butter jar with a red lid.
The cache is located in the former fishing village of Port Coldwell. It is just a ghost town now with only the building foundations remaining. Just a short drive off the highway. You can drive close to the cache, but it is recommended to park on the road and walk in - it is a short walk in.
Originally, "It was a favourite summer camping ground for roving groups of Indians, who were there one day and the next had disappeared, leaving just the traces of their camp behind them" (From "Pic, Pulp & People - A History of the Marathon District"). About 1915 a fishing business was established. In the peak years of the fisheries about 135 people lived at Coldwell. By 1956, the sea lamprey invaded Lake Superior, destroying the trout completely. The last permanent residents left the village in the late 1970's. The houses were used for summer residence until the early 1990's, when the last remaining large building (a church) was torn down. The last remaining building is an old out-house (could it be haunted?)
