This cache is located along the Snake River along a series of
non-motorized trails. The terrain rating is for the length of hike
or bike ride.
It is a log only film canister located at an old stone shack. There
is an interpretive sign at Celebration Park that describes a hermit
by the name of Doc Hysom who lived in the area. Mr. Hysom was born
in about 1850 and he died in 1944. He survived by hunting, fishing,
and some placer mining. For recreation, he played homemade musical
intruments. I will add more information when I read more about him.
There is a great biography about this man in 'Idaho Loners,' a book
by Cort Conley, author of one of the best books on Idaho, 'Idaho
for the Curious.' The story on the cache was that my caching
partner (Edward40) and I were in the area finding some other caches
when we 'stumbled' over the shack. I had a film canister in my
pocket and said "Ed, this has to be a cache! A log only sucks but
this is all I have." I plan on returning someday with an ammo can.
