Geocache Description:

This cache is located in The Great Oak Park, Trumbull, CT. The coordinates above are for parking. Obtain the final coordinates as described below.

Little known and hardly visited, Great Oak Park is a forested 69 acre Trumbull Park that has been left in its natural state except for a some hiking trails. The Oaks of Great Oak Park #3 is one of a series of three caches that will take you on a tour of the three more significant oaks in the park. Each of the three caches places you within view of one of the oaks. You must complete both #1 (GCNF28) and #2 (GC2GTRW) in order to find #3 because cache #1 contains the latitude for cache #3 and cache #2 contains the longitude for cache #3. The total walking distance to do all three in succession is about 1.2 miles.

The coordinates above are not the cache location. You will find nothing there to lead you to the cache. The actual cache location can only be obtained by completing caches #1 and #2 in this series. The Oaks of Great Oak Park #3 cache is a 30-calibre ammo can. Don't be distracted by the nearby letterbox. When you get to the cache site, observe the huge oak close by. This is the oak for which the park was named. It died and has deteriorated consideralby since its heyday. There is no need to cross swamps or brooks to find the cache if you start from the indicated parking spot or reach it from The Oaks of Great Oak Park #2

Parking and words of advice – Like all Trumbull Parks, there is a $25 fine for non-resident parking at some parking locations.  Also, like all Trumbull parks, this one closes at dusk.
