BOTANY 099 SERIES

These caches will take you to the places where specific trees, shrubs, vines or plants can be identified. The individual cache might be in or right next to the described plant, or only close enough for the plant to be seen from the cache site. Pictures of the plant will also be included when possible.

Bitterbrush or Antelope Brush

This shrub is spreading with many branches and is 2 to 6 feet tall. It is usually found in a place with dry sandy soil. It has yellow flowers that bloom in the Spring but they soon wither and fall off. The leaves have a three lobed tip hense, the tridentata in the scientific name.

Meriwether Lewis told Frederick Pursh, after whom the bush is named, that this bush grows on both sides of the Continental Divide.

Its scientific name is Purshia tridentata, but is usually called either Antelope Bush or Bitterbrush. Note the attached pictures
