Geocache Description:

Located near Lopez Village

This area was a seasonal home of the Lummi and other Coast Salish peoples. They camped along the shore of Fisherman Bay next to these wetlands while they reefnet fished for salmon until the late 1800's. Early white settlers closed off the mouth of the estuary to drain the land and thus use it for hay and pasture. You can see some of the old fencelines in the salt marsh.

Finding the established trail to the wetland overlook platform is part of the challenge. Cache is easily accessible; no need to get off the path. This is fragile land.

Container is a green nalgene water bottle and contains a number of small ofjects plus log and pencil.
