Geocache Description:

Located within Spencer Spit State Park

Spencer Spit encloses a saltchuck lagoon. The winds and tides cause continual changes in both the spit and the lagoon. This area was a favorite of Native Tribes as they migrated along the coast. They stopped here for fishing, clamming and crabbing. The spit was homesteaded in the late 1800's. The land was purchased for a State Park in 1967.

Near the cache, there are good views overlooking the spit--and old apple trees, stonework and other remains from days past. The Spit is a good area for hiking and beachcombing. Beach agates are found in the area.
