Markham Spring is a large spring on the Black River. It is part of the Mark Twain National Forest. There is an old rock house and a rock mill type structure located on a mill pond. There are several interesting springs here along with many wild flowers and ferns. The area has camping sites and river access for boats along with picnic areas. There are fees for using Markham Spring area. Day use parking is $2.00 so be prepared to shell out. The cache is located on the trail which goes up the hill to the right side of the rock house. This trail is not very well marked at the beginning but has markers on trees along the length of the trail. When you come to the area where the cache is located there are some very good overlooks of the Black River but there are also some dangerous cliffs so hang onto your kids. The area beneath the cliffs can be explored but is somewhat treacherous. The trail continues on down the hill and parallels Black River back to the campground; from there you can walk back to the parking area. The cache is an ammo box containing lots of goodies.
