Geocache Description:

The cache is within easy walking distance on a paved, level surface from the parking area. The cache is a small camoed container. You will need to supply your own pen. Remember Cache In Trash Out.

  • This cache is located in beautiful Harpersfield Covered Bridge Park, one of the area's most popular parks and historic locations. This 17 acre park borders the Grand River on the north and south sides and offers picnic facilities and recreation. Park closes at dusk.
  • The Harpersfield Covered Bridge, visible to the west of the cache area, was built in 1868. It is the longest covered bridge in Ohio (230 feet) and spans the scenic Grand River. A favorite subject of photographers year round, the bridge is listed in the National Registry of Historic Places and remains in active use by motorists today. The modern bridge, visible to the east of the cache area (along Rt. 534), was originally built to cut down on traffic using the covered bridge.
  • Harpersfield Covered Bridge Park is also a favorite of fishmen who come here to angle for trout, blue gill, crappie, large and small mouth bass. Below the Harpersfield dam, the water is shallow in warm weather months and provides kids (and adults) with a fun place to go wading. The area below the dam is a starting point for canoe trips in the spring and fall when water levels are appropriate. Between Rt. 534 in Harpersfield and Rt. 538 in Madison, canoes pass through some of the most scenic and least developed stretches found along the Grand River.
