Geocache Description:

POINT ANNE.
This is one of the locations included on the Great River Road (GRR) passage of caches. Click here to see map. (Additional details about the GRR passage are given further below in the description.)

Overlooking the south edge of the town of McGregor is a rock formation named Point Anne by the city’s founder, Alexander MacGregor, in honor of his wife. It is thought to be the second oldest rock formation in Iowa. This cache is hidden on an undeveloped alley running along the lower side of Point Anne. (The top of Point Anne is many feet up at the edge of Pikes Peak State park.) Unfortunately the land that the nearby gazebo is on was sold to a private party in Fall 2013 so it is no longer accessible to view the river and the working grain terminal.

Directions and the cache: In McGregor, park on main street near 2nd street. Follow the sidewalk starting on 2nd street and enjoy the walking bridge along the way. Container is a plastic camouflaged coffee can containing high-quality starting-cache prizes. Please return the container to its hiding place with its opening and lid on top. (Note that the hiding spot, coordinates, and clue for this cache was changed on 10-14-2012 due to repeated muggle activity.)

The GRR passage is a series of caches placed along the scenic Great River Road from Dubuque to McGregor, Iowa. They have been named as “GRRP1…”, “GRRP2…”, etc. (to view all of them, click here or search by keyword “GRRP” on the www.geocaching.com/seek/ webpage). Each of the GRR caches (except for the “GRRPbonus” cache) can be logged as a separate find and may be found in any order.

If you choose to complete the entire GRR passage, you will have the opportunity to find and log a bonus cache also placed along the Great River Road. On the inside of each cache container lid you will find a set of numbers. Write them down along with the numbers from all the other GRR cache containers. When you get all the numbers, they can be added to give you the final coordinates for the bonus cache (see the cache named “GRRPbonus” for additional details). You must visit all of the GRR caches to obtain the information required to complete the series and log the bonus cache. The first to complete the series and find the bonus cache will be reward with a $10.00 bill.
