A short hike from Panajachel that gets you away from the markets
and diesel fumes where you can enjoy a view of lake Atitlan, and
the three volcanoes, San Pedro, Atitlan and Toliman.
This cache is located in the dry hills just outside Panajachel.
The trailhead I used was outside of town under a roadway sign at
N14 44.648 W91 09.776. Initially the trail is not very well defined
but after a short distance you will encounter a well worn trail
that will lead you up a ridge. Follow this trail to the cache. I
did not have time to follow the well defined trail to the bottom of
the hill to see where it began. Please bring a pen to sign the log.
There are a couple trinkets from the market in the cache. You might
want to seek this with a friend for your own safety.
Small note on cache maintenance: I have been
visiting the region from Antiqua to Nebaj to Panajachel each year
for three years now. I will be able to check on each of my
Guatemalan caches once or twice a year for at least the next 2 to 3
years.
