The old aerial
photo shows what this area looked like prior to 1958 and can be
used for plotting your course to the cache if you like. In the
present day satellite image you can still make out the old hwy 2 as
it runs along the edge of McDonell and Philpott Island. The
entrance to the driveway into lock 21 is now in the center of the
causeway and shows up as a small protrusion on the south side.
A VACATIONING PHIL OH I WORRY. Ok that’s not 3 words. From
the kiosk travel east along the old hwy 2 until your halfway
between the first and second farm on the north side of the hwy.
Your looking for three words, 23 letters altogether, WITHIN the old
road allowance and they have been there since 1921. Then take the
first letter of the second word, the first letter of the third word
and the second letter in the first word (1st-2nd, 1st-3rd, 2nd-1st)
and punch them in that order into your phone for the number of
metres (digital root 8) you need to travel further east along the
highway. At this point you’ll be walking away from the river
and scanning for a hole in the vegetation that will lead you to the
“tub”. Well it might have been a concrete cattle trough
but it fits nicely as a bathtub.
While relaxing in the “tub”, mark this spot and add
41 to the north Long and 26 to the West lat, as in xx.xxx + 41 and
xx.xxx + 26 to get the final coords. Take a rough estimate of the
heading and distance and put the gpsr away because a straight line
is not an option. This spot is a natural maze, no obstructions if
you take your time as it’s made up of some really abnormal
trees that would make for a chilling night cache. The cache is in a
“fortified” location where peek and poke technology
will easily reveal the hide in a matter of minutes.
The cache is a regular ammo box and contains the usual, log
book, pencils, sharpener, various trade items and Lost Villages
literature. There is an entrance fee between Victoria Day and
Labour Day.
Bonus points for pictures of you in the tub. Double bonus points
for pictures with bath toys.
While your here, do check out nearby waymarks for more
