Watcher in the Woods – Allegany County Cache # 25 – Ward, NY
This is # 25 in “The caches of Allegany County” Series, located in the township of Ward. The goal of this series is to place a cache in every township in Allegany County.
“Watcher in the Woods” was going to be a micro when I first planned it, but the beauty of the area beguiled me and I had to make a multi here. It is a two step multi and the first step will give you the idea how the name came to be and why I first conceived this as a micro.
Locate County Route 10 in Allegany County. It is also known as Vandermark Road. About mid-way down its length is Baker Road. Turn east here and drive approximately .2 mi down and on the right (south) side is an area to park. Your search begins here.
Logging has been done in first search area so watch your step. Tree cover was also an issue, (if someone gets better coords, tell me!!) so be patient and let the coords lead you around as you keep a sharp look out. I assure you that you will know when you have spotted the first site.
