Geocache Description:

Located in Indian Ridge Reservation, Andover, MA. Very short walk from the trailhead (about .1 mile) but longer walks available (see trail map photo). Kid-friendly.

Cache is a clear plastic rectangle rubbermaid container with a blue seal. Trailheads are on Reservation Road. For a short walk use the trailhead at N42 38.909 / W071 09.149 (the sign that says AVIS Indian Ridge on it to mark the trailhead is behind a telephone pole and you might not see it at first).

I suggest this route (for the views): From the above trailhead, continue straight on that path up the esker (ignore the path on your left and follow the white blazes, this is the Bay Circuit Trail). The path will take a left turn and it will be a short walk on top of the esker to the cache area. The cache itself is not very far into the reservation, and if you have time, use the trail map from this page (in the photos section below) and enjoy more of this AVIS land. You can make somewhat of a loop with these trails and also grab the nearby caches Peaceful Easy Feeling North and Peaceful Easy Feeling South (you will have to cross the road). I think this trip would be between 2 and 3 miles long.

From AVIS: Indian Ridge has been a popular walk for Andover residents since the last century. Those in poor health were once advised to walk around the ridge twice a day. 10,000 to 12,000 years ago the Wisconsin Glacier covered Andover. Meltwater streams flowed through cracks in the glacier, depositing rocks and gravel in their channels. Eskers, the resulting ridges, may be 100 feet in height and several miles long. The Indian Ridge esker reaches up to 50 feet.

Bring bug repellent, gnats can be bothersome. There is a disposable camera in the cache, please take your picture and I will have them developed and posted. There is parking at the end of Argilla Road (across from the Village Deli).
