The Green Man scuplture was only installed last month. As it's in
an area not frequently passed, we thought we'd chuck a micro down
here to bring people to see it. He isn't very green yet and is a
bit naked, but hopefully as the months pass he will become clothed.
Here is a bit more info on him if you are interested:
The Green Man sculpture was designed by Colin Spofforth of
Brimstone Artworks and commissioned by Barratt and Redrow Homes as
a landmark feature for Buckshaw Village, a major redevelopment of
the former Royal Ordnance Factory site between Leyland and
Chorley.
For the first phase the sculpture’s 4.5 tonne skeleton was
recently raised by crane and the second phase will begin in March
when ivy, clematis, honey suckle and creepers are planted at the
Green Man’s feet.
The rest will be left to ‘Mother Nature’ as the
plants grow around a skeleton of fabricated tubular steel to create
a unique vertical garden that stretches to the top of the
sculpture’s head and across an arm span of nearly 36 feet (11
metres).
As per John Stead's suggestion, it would be nice if people could
take pictures of him as the seasons change and as the plants grow
higher. We'll add them to the main page to save people clicking on
the gallery.
