Chailey Common is one of the largest commons in the south of
England and was designated a Local Nature Reserve in 1966. The
common is a Site of Special Scientific Interest for its heathland
plants, and diverse insect and bird communities. Landmarks include
the Meridian Stone, Chailey Windmill and the Garth Christian
Memorial Stone.
Chailey Common stretches over 450 acres and includes Red House
Common, Memorial Common, Romany Ridge Common, Pound Common and Lane
End. The cache is located on the Red House Common. This is the bit
of land with the windmill on it. You should park at the Red
House common car park which is on Warrs Hill Lane (N50°58.722',
W000°01.130'). To reach the cache you will need to walk
downhill from the car park in a Westerly direction for about 10
minutes.
You will find a cool rope swing close to the cache (N50°58.683',
W000°01.718') so be sure to allow some time for having fun on it.
It would be great if you could upload a photo in full swing!
