We have hiked the Sam Merrill Trail many times. We thought you might enjoy a couple caches on the way up to Echo Mtn. Take the 210 Fwy to Lake Ave drive all the way to the end and then park. Enter the iron gates. Trailhead is at: 34 12.239/ 118 07.715. Take the trail just past the sign in and to the left of the trailhead sign, do not take the trail that heads down and do not take the road.
3 X 15 Welding Rod Canister: Log and pen. Usual cache stash. Cache is ON the trail which is how the trailkeeper likes it. It is a busy area so please take the time to rehide better than found. Don't make a U- turn at this point, keep going, hike all the way up to Echo Mountain. It's a great place to see. It's a historical site with picnic tables and a great view and alot more. But watch for muggles at cache location you may have to use stealth at times. CYA at the top of the mountain. Have a great time.
