Geocache Description:

A gentle uphill walk through Birnham Wood to the cache. Stoney path, which can often be very wet, so sturdy boots essential. Please watch children and dogs at the cache as there is a steep drop.

The car park and the start of the walk. are at co-ordinates N56.32.750/W003.33.654. There is a well marked track all the way to the cache as shown on the Information board in the car park. Walk under the railway line and follow the pathway which soon loops around to your left. Follow this path uphill, which can be wet and rocky in places. You pass a small waterfall on your right. Continue on until there is a signposted left turn. This leads you to Stair Bridge, along a man-made old road. Just on your right as you approach the bridge is a hill called the Hangmans Hill. A large oak tree used to stand here, used for the hangings, before throwing the body's down from the stair bridge into the deep ravine below. As you approach the cache you will feel a sudden drop in temparature, perhaps this place is haunted by the countless people who have met their death here. There is a waterfall here, and very steep drops on your left. The above co-ordinates take you to the stair bridge, and from there follow the instructions to the cache as the GPS fluctuates a lot in the deep gorge and tree cover. From the very end of the right wall of the bridge, (assuming you approached with the view to your left)count 35 paces along the uphill track. There is a rocky outcrop on the right where you will find the cache. The cache is a small box containing log book, pencil, stamp and ink pad. ********** Letterboxing. In the cache box you will find a Rubber Stamp and an Ink Pad - these are the signature for this cache. Please take an imprint of the stamp for yourself if you wish to collect them in your own personal notebook. Then leave an imprint of your own personal stamp in the cache log book (if you have one), or simply sign as a traditional log book. Stamp and Ink remains part of the cache but it might be an idea to carry your own Ink Pad in case the one provided should dry up. **********
