What You Need to Do:
The Olmstead Loop Trail, formerly known as the Knickerbocker Trail, was named after Dan Olmstead in 1993. Olmstead was an avid biker and hiker; and as a young man, his love of the outdoors caused him to become dedicated to the goal of bringing harmony among the hikers, bikers, and equestrians.
Trailhead and parking are behind the fire station in Cool, in the vicinity of N 38° 53.339, W 121° 01.041. Trailhead is on the south end of the parking area.
It is hidden in some rocks within 35 metres of the trail, so there is no need to go cross country; stick to the trails. Don't forget to check out the Indian grinding rocks nearby (picture at left).
There are many other caches available in this park, including a number of caches with an Australian theme. There are also a number of caches with a Norwegian theme. Why not plan a big day out and pick up 20–30 caches. Here is a list of the Australian-theme caches:
The trail can be busy on weekends and is sometimes closed for special events, such as bike races and horse events. The loop is nine miles long, mostly fairly level, but has its ups and downs. The Auburn State Recreation Canyon Keepers (ASRACK) have an online Trail Guide page that includes a guide for the Olmstead Loop.
By the way: "Aussie" is pronounced "Ozzy", not "Ossy". 
Small note on cache maintenance: This cache was placed as part of an International Cache Exchange. Species5618 gave dak's Emu Mob a cache container full of US-centric swaps, and we gave him a container full of Australian-centric swaps. Species5618 placed this cache on our behalf, and we have done the same for him. I'm not in a position to maintain this cache personally, however, Species5618 has agreed to look after this cache in my absence.
I am sad to say that dak's Emu Mob lost his fight with cancer (July 2008) but I will continue to look after his cache in his memory.
