The new hiking trail has a sturdy bridge that crosses Rock Creek (it survived the hurricane flooding*). The creek is mostly a moist low area except in times of heavy rains or high water. Along this drainage a series of truly handsome and gnarly live oaks.
The cache can be approached from the south, parking at the WST Trailhead 28°31.613 82°13.127, following the blazed trail with several hides along the way.
On a cool day, you could park at the gate at Rock Lake Lodge 28°33.396 82°13.204 and walk west about .7 miles. If you use this approach head straight for the walk gate at N28* 33.371 W082* 12.904. Be sure to lock the gate behind you.
You could also park at the north trail head at 28°33.943 82°12.454 and walk south (shaded) about 1 mile.
*Forester Johnny Arquette should be thanked for the bridge, as he had the foresight to use trailor ties to strap it down, unlike the many footbridges in elsewhere which were picked up and carried away by high water during the 2004 hurricanes.
