Geocache Description:

A lot of hikers hike up Mt. Major and straight back, but not many hike up Mt. Major and Straightback. Like Mt. Major, Mt Straightback has an open summit with great views. Where Mt. Major is generally crowded, Mt. Straightback is generally deserted. From the large Mt. Major parking lot just off RT-11(N 43° 31.158, W 71° 16.428), it is about 1.75 miles to the summit of Mt. Major with about a 1200 foot elevation gain on a well marked, and somewhat rough, rocky, trail. From Mt. Major to the summit of Straightback it is about another 0.9 miles on a good but rocky trail. This is a good route to take on the way up, especially if you want to get “A Major Cache”, GC81FD, on the way. The cache on Straightback is just off a trail near the summit. You can go back to the parking lot the same way you came up, over the summit of Mt. Major; or take the Brook Trail that bypasses the climb back over Mt. Major, is slightly shorter, but less scenic. The Brook Trail branches left off the trail back from Mt. Straightback about 0.7 miles from its summit. This trail is a wide and sometimes rough old woods road that follows a nice brook for some distance. The FTF prize is a bright 5-LED lithium powered flashlight with push for momentary on, or twist for constant on. Please re-hide the cache well.
