2 parts to the event here - The First part is primarily for the "race" around the Bathurst area. The Second part is for all cachers, locals and the racers - which is the campout and gathering at the campsite in the Bathurst area. The Event takes place on June 25th, 2005.

I've been working with Insp. Gadget on this event as he lives in the area and is aiding with the preperations.
Like last year's "Red Dirt Dash", this year we will be dashing around the Bathurst area (and spamming gadget's email box in the process). Afterwards, we're talking big party/gathering at the campsite where the local cachers will have a chance to meet with the cachers from out of town and much merriment will ensue. As last year prizes will be awarded for those in the dash event and hey.. it's an excuse to cache!
Part 1 - The Dash
Teams or individuals racing will be limited to having caches located within a 7km radius of the posted coords (which at last count is over 75 caches, which should be enough for everyone) count towards their final total. To get a list of these caches, do a search from this event page of all closest caches, and voila! You have your list..
Caching starts on Saturday morning at the starting line (see below) and stops at 7:00PM at which point you need arrive at the campground. For every 5 min you're late, that deducts one find from your team.
Local cachers are welcome to compete, however only finds which they have not already found can count towards their total... (So rookie cachers in the area will have the advantage of the landscape familiarity)
Everyone participating in the race will meet at the starting line in the Chaleur Centre parking lot at coords N47 35.412 W65 39.498. It's just off HWY 11, and should be easy to find. Everyone needs to meet here at this spot for 8:30AM - plan your personal drive times accordingly, or head up the day before....Official start time for people will be 9:00AM, which will give people 10 hours to get as many as possible... you can stop whenever you want, just head to the campsite...
Part 2 - The Meet n Greet/Campout/Gathering
As mentioned, local cachers are more then welcomed to compete, however if you've pretty well cleared out the city, then show up for the marriness which will occur at the campground! Meet other cachers from away and swap stories, TBs and generally have a good time.
So at this point I should probibly tell you where the campground actually IS... considering it's needed for the race and all... Campout is called "The Berry Patch Campground" it's located at N47 38.987 W065 43.277 which is quite close to the main Highway.
The good Insp. Gadget has hammered out a deal for all staying the the group for fully serviced tent sites. A single tent will run you only 10$ per night, a little more for family. See the office for details of family and campers deals.. just mention it's for the geocaching event!
The owners are VERY geocaching friendly and Gadget will he hiding caches in the network of trails behind the campgrounds (with their blessing) for the event! If you arrive early, look for the tent with the Geocaching symbol on it, that will be Gadget's tent... and that is the area we are setting up in!
NEW CACHERS:If you're looking for more information on the sport of geocaching, we'll all be around to help you out and learn more about this addiction... I mean activity we all love! Just drop by the campground on the day of the event, there should be someone there to help you out.
I also want to point out the local taunting between teams on FRS/GMRS units will be on Channel 2 and if anyone has specific questions on the area itself, Gadget has made himself avaliable (contact him directly via email)
