Rhoddy O! Traditional Cache

When I first came to Scotland eight years ago I remember being driven along the smelly M876 out to smelly Grangemouth but the main thing I remember about the journey is the amazing show of the Rhododendrons just east of the road between junctions 1 and 2. I finally decided to go there. You can go off at either junction (you can only get off at J2 going north) and through Larbert. The parking space I chose was near the hospital at N56° 01.620’ W03° 50.868’. As with most attempts to approach places using the OS map most of roads up to this area are private and only accessible on foot. At my chosen start point there is a Scottish Rights of way Society signpost directing you towards Denovan. The walk in wasn’t very inspiring, a bit of a tarmac road, a rough path, through a wood and then across a field. I guess the field usually has livestock in but was empty when I went through.
From the M/way it looks like one great big rhoddy bush but it is of course lots of large ones bunched together and there is in fact quite a wide clearing near the middle. The trouble you may have is getting into that clearing though I found a good route in usually used by the animals. When in bloom I think this will be an idyllic little spot (if you can ignore the roar of the Motorway). So even though I’ve set the cache now it will be best appreciated when the flowers are in full bloom. The hiding place is a little bit sneaky and a simple action to make moving the item that it’s hidden under will make your life a lot easier.
