Geocache Description:

This cache will take you on a short hike along Upper Newport Bay. This area is full of little trails that wind through the brush. After the rainy season -- which is when this cache was placed -- the brush can be a bit overgrown and some areas may be a little muddy.

You may see some nice wildlife on this hike, particularly birds and bunnies. I saw a pair of Mallards with about six baby ducklings, egrets, vultures, doves, and an occasional heron. In the Spring season, after the Winter rains, the wildflowers are in bloom also.

This is a three-part multi-cache. At the first waypoint, in addition to the coordinates for the second waypoint, you will find a nice viewpoint of the bay with some educational signs about the ecosystem.

The second waypoint will take you to a little secluded marsh area. This is where I saw the family of ducks.

The final waypoint is where you will find the cache with some nice goodies enclosed.

Overall, this is a fairly easy hike, but sturdy shoes are recommended, as the footing can be uneven in some areas. Please be careful of this and other hazards that may be present along this hike, including: scary wildlife and prickly or itchy plants. Occasional astronomical high tides may cause brief tidal flooding on parts of the path, but the cache itself is located a few feet above this level and should stay dry. In other words, your shoes may get wet or muddy at times on the way to this cache.

Update: 5/11/11: This multi-cache has been replaced. The old cache was nowhere to be found, so any trackables are presumed lost. The cylinder container is about 8" long and 4" in diameter. Please take care not to drop the second waypoint, as you won't like where you have to go to retrieve it!

Enjoy!
