Geocache Description:

Lambert's Castle is a castle with no walls - find out more by visiting this cache and exploring the area. The coordinates above are of the car park off the B3165 (it's shown on OS Landranger Map 193). The coordinates of the cache site can be found be answering the questions and deciphering the code.

Lambert's Castle is the site of an ancient fort and other interesting history. You need to read the history board in the car park to answer the clues to find the cache coordinates. There is a short walk to the cache so it shouldn't take too long. While you are here it's well worth taking the time to explore the hill - there are lots of woodland tracks to follow (particularly nice in late spring when the bluebells are out), great views to be had on a clear day and grassland to play or picnic on - children will love climbing trees and playing hide-and-seek here. The trail and general area of the cache is accessible with a pushchair but the actual site is not (ooops, is that a clue?) - but it's not far from the main path if you want to leave the pushchair and carry a little one. You are looking for an ex-MoD ammo canister. First, answer these questions, replacing the letters with numbers:
  1. Lambert's Castle has been used for horse racing - in what year did racing stop? Answer = ABCD
  2. It rises from Marshwood Vale - to what height in metres? Answer = EFG
  3. There was once an Admiralty Research Station here - in what year was it built? Answer = AHIG
  4. The station was part of a relay system to get messages from London to Plymouth and back again - how many times could this be done in one hour? Answer = J
Next, complete the decryption key:
  A | B | C | D | E | F | G | H | I | J
 ---------------------------------------
    | | | | | | | | |
    | | | | | | | | |

Finally, use the decryption key to decipher the coordinates:
  N F I ° C D . E G D
 ------------------------

  N °

  W I I E ° F J . C H E
 ------------------------

  W °
