Geocache Description:

As we continue the Pioneer Cemetery Series, you will be looking for a metal ammo box at this location. Please skirt the edge of the wheat field as much as possible as you climb the hill to this cemetery. Just remember….it’s downhill on the way back!

KEISER CEMETERY: This little cemetery is located northeast of Walla Walla (1/2 mile off the Middle Waitsburg Road), up on a hill at the edge of a wheat field. There are about 25 headstones, many of which have been vandalized and broken. The grass is long and vines cover many of the headstones. The earliest known burial here was in 1870. There is a dilapidated iron fence surrounding the Mitchel family plot, but the Keiser family is dispersed around the area. Surprisingly, the most recent burial here was in 1993: well known Walla Wallan W.L. “Shine” Minnick.

PIONEER CEMETERY SERIES: This is one in a series of caches hidden in or near old cemeteries. Some of the cemeteries have been abandoned, while others are still in use today. These cemeteries all have burials dating back to the 1880’s or before. As a “Daughter of the Pioneers of Washington” and a member of the “Sons and Daughters of Oregon Pioneers”, I have a special interest in the history of our valley and the Pacific Northwest.

Please let me know if there are any problems with the cache. Thanks, RCH.
