As we continue the Pioneer Cemetery Series, the cache you will be looking for is a small plastic jar. Best parking is on the west side--on Middle Waitsburg Road. Best done "after" wheat harvest.
ROSEHILL (aka Buroker) CEMETERY: This cemetery is northeast of Walla Walla on a hill surrounded by wheat field. The earliest burial at this cemetery was in 1869. There are about 27 headstones in all, many of which have been vandalized or toppled. There are a few wrought iron fences surrounding individual graves. One wooden marker is still upright and barely readeable. The cemetery is not maintained and is covered with tall grass and weeds.
PIONEER CEMETERY SERIES: This is one in a series of caches hidden in or near old cemeteries. Some of the cemeteries have been abandoned, while others are still in use today. These cemeteries all have burials dating back to the 1880’s or before. As a “Daughter of the Pioneers of Washington” and a member of the “Sons and Daughters of Oregon Pioneers”, I have a special interest in the history of our valley and the Pacific Northwest.
Please let me know if there are any problems with the cache. Thanks, RCH.
