This will be a series of caches highlighting the heritage of the I&M Canal. All caches will be accessible from the trail and access points along the trail.
Parking for the shortest way is at N41.23.093 W88.14.412 McKinnley Woods F.P. Or for a good hike come in from Channahon State Park.
When you get close, there will be a hard way and an easier way to reach the cache. The harder way will take you through some wet and muddy areas. The easiest way will be a direct route right off the trail. Lots of brush on both routes.
The Kankakee Feeder canal entered into the I&M Canal at this location. If you look close you through the brush you will see the depression of the channel. An aqueduct went across the DesPlaines river to where the marina is now. The feeder then went toward Wilmington. If you cross the Kankakee river on I55 and look east you may see one of the old locks.
In the 1880's the aqueduct washed out and was never replaced. Around that time the spillway into the canal for water was built in Channahon near Lock 7.
The container is a camo'd ammo box.
