Geocache Description:

This cache was inspired by the 5 – count ‘em five! – traffic roundabouts that were built in the short stretch of NY route 67 between US 9 just east of the cache and the State Farm entrance just west of the Northway overpass.

A four lane bridge replaces the previous, standard-issue Rte 67 bridge over I-87 in the Town of Malta, Saratoga County. Route 67 was reconstructed from the State Farm Entrance to Dunning Street. This project included the construction of five (5) roundabouts to replace the signals at the State Farm Entrance, two (2) interstate ramps, Kelch Drive and the Rte 9/67 intersection. Construction began in the spring of 2005, and was completed about a year ahead of schedule in the Fall of 2006. The project's cost is approximately $16 million. (ref. NYS DOT)

Now on to the cache!

  1. At the IP face south and find the large sign on the building you see. You will need to use some of the words from this sign.
  2. Face easterly and follow the white line the same number of parking spaces as the number of letters in the first word on the sign.
  3. At this new point scan the horizon for the wind blown horse.
  4. Go to the south side of the building under the horse.
  5. Face south and count the number of dormers on the building you see. Multiply that number by 2 and subtract from it the number of letters in the red word on the first sign you saw. Call this value ‘X’.
  6. Continue following the brick road towards the east and around the commons until you find a fire hydrant.
  7. Look down on the top of the fire hydrant and you will see several words cast into it. Subtract the number of L's from the number of E's you see. Call this value 'Y'.

The final cache coordinates are determined by using ‘X’ and ‘Y’ to adjust the initial coordinates. Multiply ‘X’ by 169 and add it to the decimal portion of the latitude (096). Multiply ‘Y’ by 203 and subtract it from the decimal portion of the longitude (989).

The cache is a small (3½ x 2¼ x ¾ inch) metal container big enough for the log and SMALL trades or travel bugs.
