KU#8 Building for the future Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Makuta Teridax: Hei, Smooh!

Makuta Teridax

Geocache Description:

A multicache located at Sleiverud, Bærums Verk. If you come by car, I recommend parking near location 1, and do the rest of the hunt on foot. It should take you no more than 30 minutes to collect the required information. The final destination, where you will find the cache, is within 5 minutes of walking from the last location. The cache is a plastic container in a plastic bag.

"Norway in 100 years"

The cache is dedicated to Norwegian postage stamps nos. 1562 and 1563, issued on April 15th 2005 in connection with a children's drawing competition entitled "Norge om 100 år" (Norway in 100 years). Children all over the country took part in the competition, and the jury received more than 45000 entries. Two drawings were selected for this stamp issue.

"Fremtidsbyen" (The futuristic city)
"Det moderne klasserom" (The modern class room)

Building for the future

For this cache I wanted to use a location that was somehow related to the future. I chose Sleiverud in Bærum. The planning work for this housing development was started in the early 1980s, at which time Sleiverud consisted mainly of forest, except for the buildings of two old "husmannsplasser". In 1985 the council approved the hosting of a housing exhibition at Sleiverud in 1987. The exhibition was named "Bygg for fremtiden" (Building for the future). The idea was to give the architects free reins to design futuristic houses. The result was a wide variety of different designs and constructions at Sleiverud.

One of the most innovative designs is perhaps the house that has become known as the UFO-house (location 3 of this multi). This house was designed with the purpose of saving space. The house is built on a narrow central column. The intention was that the house could easily be moved to a new location. The UFO has contiguous windows along all outside walls. The dividing walls inside the UFO can easily be moved to change the sizes of rooms.

The Sleiverud husmannsplass (first location of this multi) was originally in the service of Eine farm in Lommedalen, but from 1674 it served the Bærums Verk ironworks. The outhouse is partly built from slagstones from Bærums Verk. The Mølla husmannsplass, which is one of the next door neighbours of the UFO, has been beautifully restored during the last few years.

The Sleiverud tour

This is a multi cache where you have to collect information from five different locations before you can calculate the coordinates of the final location.
