Sure, you may have swam or fished in the beautiful and apparently peaceful waters of Wallowa Lake, but do you know about Wally, the Wallowa Lake Monster? We put this cache out of Wally's reach, yet close enough to keep an eye out for him. Bring your camera, you may be the lucky one to get a picture of the famous Wally!
Here's some history of the Wallowa Lake Monster I found with a little research: {{According to Nez Perce folklore, Wallowa Lake is inhabited by a giant serpent. On orders from the Great Spirit, the serpent rises violently from the deep to punish evildoers who bring pain and sorrow to sacred lands around the lake. Angered by years of warfare between the Nez Perce and the Blackfeet, the Great Spirit punished the whole lot with a serpent attack on a canoe containing Wahluna, the daughter of Nez Perce Chief Red Wolf, and her lover Tlesca, the son of Bloody Chief, the leader of the Blackfeet. The Nez Perce, witnessing this disaster, never again went out on the lake. In 1950, The Oregonian reported that three people had seen Wally feeding on kokanee salmon. They described the creature as being about 16 feet long, with a head "as wide as a buffalo head." In 1982, two people observed Wally for 10 minutes, swearing that it was about 50 feet long, with "seven humps and dark in color." Like Nessie, the reputed "sea monster" in Scotland's Loch Ness, there is little or no reliable scientific evidence to confirm Wally's existence.
