Geocache Description:

Situated on an urban fringe, Yeadon is a town steeped in history, dating back to the early 1700's. Well known for its wollen mills which make up this towns colourfull history along with its agricultral past. The Yomp takes you round some of the well known parts of Yeadon, and some not so well known.
The cache was moved to a new location on 14/10/07. The final walk will give you views down Wharfedale, as well as departing or arriving "parrafin pigeons" fog permitting !!

The above Grid Reference is the entrance to the Car Park where it is suggested you park your car to participate in the Yeadon Yomp. You may do the Yomp by car, but it is not recommended as the route takes you through parks, down dead end roads and the wrong way up one way streets.

The Yomp is possible by wheelchair, particularly with the assistance of a helper. The route involves about 1 ½ miles of travel. For the clue after “three goals” follow your GPS to the end of the passage, then ignore the GPS, and turn right down the flagged slope, and at the bottom turn left. The clue will become visible and be somewhat obvious !! I cannot envisage any other major problems for wheelchair users.

There are 4 caches round the Dam. If you turn left round the Dam you will pass 3 on the outbound leg. I would suggest you leavre Carols Dam Silver Cache, as you should pass this on your way back to the final.

At the entrance to the car park you should find a sign. Study the sign, you are looking for two numbers. The number you need to replace a in the Grid Referances to continue the cache is The Sailing and Activity Centre. The number you need for letter b is The Bandstand.

Now head towards the grid reference below. This lake is actually know locally as Yeadon Tarn or if you’re a real local T’Dam. (Take no notice of the signs saying its called Tarnfield Park - that's the Bureaucrats sat in Leeds who take our money and know now't about us lot out in the suburbs - Bring back Aireborough Urban District Council!!) The dam was actually built to supply the many local dye mills with water. It was drained during the Second World War so German Bombers could not use it to aid navigation, when trying to find the nearby Avro Works, which produced Avro Aircraft during World War 2. The Island was a post war addition

How many vertical sides has this new musical addition to the area? Don't forget to include the entrance as a side. answer = d

At this point you may wish to head to Childs Play 2 (GC15WE3) (visit link) before you continue the Yomp

This Grid Reference takes you to an unusual name for a street. Walk down the street with the unusual name and what number house has managed to score three goals ? (Ignore the letter at the end of the house number i.e if the house was 29C, the answer you need is 29) answer = e

Note some of the other “appropriate” house names as you walk down the street

From here just a short walk to

We continue with the theme, but wow, have you ever seen one this big ?? Its almost as big as a house side. How many white hexagons. Answer = f

For the next part of “The Yomp”, The clue has been recently moved. The clue has now found a new home not far from the original site. Avoid walking through the Supermarket Car Park for safety sake. Walk down the road, with the petrol station on your right. Once past the petrol station, then follow your GPS. It's just as quick, and a lot safer.

As a bonus for following these instructions you will pass Off Yer Trolley! (Yeadon) GC1B2J3 (visit link)

This memorial is to a young man who lost his life while constructing the nearby Bramhope railway tunnel. Most locals don’t even know its here. How old was he when he died. Answer = g h

From here it’s a short walk to the frontage of what I think for the size of the town is a most impressive building. Paid for by the local wealthy mill owners (or really the sweat and toil of their workers) it puts to shame some town halls of much larger towns.

This is the smallest pub in the area. (In fact it’s the smallest pub I’ve ever been into – but perhaps I need to get out more !!) How many letters in the pub name answer = k

Note another unusual street name on the side of the pub !!!

This is the grid reference for the actual cache. On weekends there will be lots muggles close by, but very few venture to this spot. Please note you do not need to go in sacred ground.

AS WITH ALL MY CACHES - DO NOT POST A FIND IF YOU HAVE NOT FOUND THE PLASTIC . ANY LOGS ALONG THE LINES “I WENT BUT THE CACHE HAD GONE MISSING SO I’M CLAIMING IT ANYWAY” WILL BE DELETED

FINALLY A BIG THANKS TO "PAGE 28" FOR HELP WITH MY 1st CACHE
