A shepherd and his wife, on a mare had travelled from Rannoch, heading for Loch Treig on the old 'Road to the Isles'. It had been a long journey and the mare was tired.
As they came over the ridge in sight of Loch Ossian, they were overtaken by a blizzard. Soaked to the skin and frozen, the shepherd realized his wife wouldn't survive the journey. Stopping behind a rock, he killed the mare, disembowelled her and placed his wife in the body cavity. He then set off to seek help at Craiguaineach. (See 'The Devil Deals a Hand' GCNP9Z). Returning in time to rescue his wife, who made a full recovery.
