The Icarian Orbit (remember Icarus, he flew too close to the sun) cache was created as the release point for nine planetary travel bugs with the intention of developing, with your help, a scale model of the solar system.
The goal is to have nine travel bugs moving from cache to cache at specified distances from what Oliver Wendall Holmes called "the hub of the solar system", together forming a 1:1,000,000 scale model of the actual solar system
The sun is represented by the golden object located at 42 degrees 21.4945 minutes north, 71 degrees 3.8101 minutes west. You will have to identify that object and research the answers to a few additional questions in order to determine the precise location of this cache. To carry out this research you can travel about 30 miles east and tour the golden object (free tours are offered 10am to 4pm on weekdays) or identify the object and discover the answers at a library or on the internet.
- AXYZ = Year in which the golden object located at 42 degrees 21.4945 minutes north, 71 degrees 3.8101 minutes west was completed.
- $QZRQ.ST = original cost of gilding this object.
- AYBB = year of the infamous "codnapping."
- CT = number of seats in the chamber beneath the golden object.
You will find the cache at:
North CQ degrees BA.SCQ minutes
West TXA degrees QZ.ARZ minutes
Alternate parking can be found at North 42 degrees 31.042 minutes, West 71 degrees 28.095 minutes.
