Exeter Grove Roadside Park Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

BBWolf+3Pigs: Well, this cache had a good run, proving to be one of my more popular hides.

But alas, work crews seem to have discovered it and probably tossed it. The only thing I found was the recess it was hiding in.

Geocache Description:

Number ten in my continuing series of holiday themed caches.

Memorial Day is seen by many as the start of the summer season, with picnics, barbecues and family gatherings. Memorial Day is also the day set aside to honor the men and women who lost their lives in service to our Nation. So, while we will certainly be enjoying the day off in any number of ways, let's all pause for a moment to remember those men and women.

I had several appropriate spots picked out for a cache, but after thinking about it, it just didn't feel right to be placing caches there. I decided instead to place the cache at what must have been a popular spot for picnics in its heyday. You can almost see the station wagons loaded with kids and coolers stopping here on the way to parks and campgrounds.

The cache is starting off with both picnic and Memorial Day themed items, but as always, all trade items are welcome. I recently had a complaint that my cache containers were too small, so this one is a slightly large plastic container. Please replace camouflage materials after re-hiding.

In Flanders Fields
John McCrae, 1915

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
