Bumpy two track road that most cars/trucks can handle. Watch for turtles crossing the road and occassional oncoming traffic.
French Farm Lake can be a well hidden jewel to the average tourist passing through Historic Mackinaw City and the straits of Mackinac area. The story has it that a historically well-known merchant, John Askin lived and worked the land in this area supplying staples to the British troops at Fort Michilimackinac. The North Country National Scenic Trail also wanders through this area, look for the blue markers! Mount Baldy isn’t really a mountain, but a beautiful bald sand dune spot on the road into French Farm Lake that gives a great view of Trailsend Bay on Lake Michigan, and of French Farm Lake, also the wind turbines. The hike is vertically challenging but oh so worth the effort especially around sunset. Stay on the main road coming in as the road that goes off to the right (this takes you to the back side of Mt. Baldy) is sometimes impassable or can be gated. There is a turn out that will fit one or two cars at the base of the dune. ** This parking area is right next to DNR primative camp site #2 (there is a sign) If you park to the right of the post you wont disturb campers if there are any.

Cache is a plastic container with a red lid. Containing a log book, items and a pencil.This is a pretty popular trail with the locals, please hide the cache as well or better then you found it replacing the lid tightly. Follow the two track back into French Farm Lake when your through, and maybe you’ll see snapping turtles, painted turtles, blue herons, or eagles about the lake. Enjoy!
