Upper Kanaka Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

tjguy98: I have spoken to the rep from Metro Parks and the conversation was good.
The reason the cache was removed by Parks is that it no longer falls within the Metro Parks guidelines of being reachable from the trail.

As well, you need to have the cache 500 meters away from the nearest cache rather than the usual 161 meters.
As this would cause problems for a new cache location, and interfere with an existing nearby cache, I have decided to archive this cache.

After 15 years of drawing cachers to east Maple Ridge and inspiring dozens of new caches in the area, this cache has done its job in promoting Maple Ridge and can now take a rest.

Geocache Description:

Located in Kanaka Creek Regional Park at the headwaters of Kanaka Creek

Take a short walk along an old logging road and let the sound of the city fade away as you take a few turns in the road. This is the headwaters of Kanaka Creek, and the start of the 7 mile corridor park that is Kanaka Creek Regional Park. The park stretches from the area you are now in, down stream to where Kanaka Creek empties into the Fraser River. It is rare that a river is protected for it's entire length, and the G.V.R.D. gets full marks for their foresight. To help you enjoy the full range of the park, there are now several caches along it's length for you to find, starting with this one, and ending at the mouth of the Kanaka. Enjoy the walk along the old road bed, and look for stumps with spring board notches that tell of a logging industry of years ago. Listen to the birds in the forest announce your presence, and watch them flit across the trail as you saunter along on your quest. The cache is a peanut butter style jar painted black, containing the usual assortment of goods, mostly kids stuff.
