Remote Area. Generally oil field roads and two track. The last half-mile is four-wheel drive or walk. The last two miles are pickup or truck two track. No sedans there. The caches are fairly obvious once you get there. Just out of the way of muggles and for weather protection.
CAMPSITE
The daily lives of the Indians and Pioneers of the area depended on an available supply of water and food. The site you will/may visit only had water sometimes, but was a place to return to in the better, wetter years. There is good deer hunting in the area, or there was before the lions came back.
The nearest permanent water is in Last Chance Canyon and Sitting Bull Falls several miles to the south and the Pecos River and artesian wells or springs that were/are in the river valley over 20 miles to the east. Seasonal water was sometimes available in “lakes” up on “Texas Hill” above.
The main cache is a 2+ # coffee can with typical log and goodies. The cache(s) are not hidden to confuse, just to conceal somewhat and provide weather protection.
This is a multi-cache and remote (sort of). You are invited to spend some time in the foothills of the Guadalupe Mountains, seeing some great views, and visiting some of New Mexico you may not have seen otherwise. A two-wheeled drive pickup can make it but 4WD is better for the last half-mile. A VERY primitive 2 track can take you within fifty yards or so. Final cache location is in cache #’s 1 & 2. Take notes!
Hazards: cactus, lechuguilla, mesquite, yucca, cat-claw, snakes, spiders, scorpions and mountain lions.
The origional irarednek2 has gone to that greater cache in the sky. Panda5 and I now have this cache. There is a little irarednek2 - a great grandson - that may become another cacher.
