Geocache Description:

This cache is on the Moab Rim trail, at a spot with fantastic views down into the Moab Valley. The trailhead is on Kane Creek Road, and there's a clearly marked parking area with an outhouse. You'll travel about 1.5 miles and climb almost 1000 ft. (nearly all of it in the first mile) to reach the cache site.

You can get to the cache site on foot, mountain bike, dirt bike, ATV, or 4WD. The "scenic chairlift" is gone now, so you have to work for your panoramic view. If you're not familiar with Moab, note that the Moab Rim trail is one of the most technically challenging 4WD trails in the area -- don't expect to cruise up the hill in an SUV! On a hot day, we recommend doing this trail early in the morning, before the rocks heat up and while there is some shade on the steep first mile.

The Moab Rim trail connects with the Hidden Valley trail (which starts south of Moab, off Angel Rock Rd.), which is open to hikers and mountain bikers but not motorized vehicles. If you can arrange a car shuttle, the combination is a beautiful hike of about six miles with three caches (this one, Moonflower, by Daryl&Daryl, and our other cache, Khybur's Hidden Valley View). Bella (pronounced "bay-ah"), for whom this cache is named, advises you not to hike the Moab Rim trail with dogs on a hot afternoon. Two years ago, Peter, Jeannette, and I (Miriam) did this with two of our three cachin' K9's, Bella and Molly, on a hot day in June. We began at the Hidden Valley end, took time to enjoy the views, found the Moonflower cache, where Peter rescued Molly from a slippery pool of slimy water, and by the time we started down the steep part of the Moab Rim trail, the rocks were hot enough to burn Bella's paws.

As of 10/3/2010, the cache is a big round white plastic jar with a black screw-top lid.
