This cache is located near Ft. Ritchie in Cascade Md. Parking is located at 039 42.783N 077 29.648W. There is a trail that will lead you to the cache. However, the terrain changes throughout your hike from a 1 to a 3 and a half. So be careful as you move along. At the site you will find a ammo can with log book, pen, and some trading items.
I have heard two reason's on why the falls has its name. One being a folklore, the area was used by an occult for Satanic worshipping. The second is this creek is called Falls Creek, nearby is Devils Run, combining the two you have Devils Falls. In either case the falls is a place that M & I used to frequent with our friends from the base. Where we enjoyed a bon fire and good times. I hope that you enjoy this site as much as we have. This is our first cache so please let us know what you think.
**Just a note if taking children to the falls, make sure that there is an adult to help that child down the steep terrain. I took "K" with us to place this, she is only 5 years old and the only time that she needed help was down the steep hill part of the trail. Also, the nearby water treatment plant had a power failure on 5/16/05 which caused 25,000 gallons of untreated waste water to be spilled in the nearby creek. Please do not allow children to play in falls and pets to drink the water. Although the sign is now down I would rather be safe than sorry.****
**7/28/05 S and I decided that we would give everyone a hint on how to get to this cache without having to bushwack to much. Go to the underpass for the train, make a right turn near the water treatment plant. From here you have two ways into this one is to go up the stairs to the railroad tracks and walk along the tracks in the gravel (this is the easiest way but not recommend since there is a railroad track there) to where the woods begin. You'll see a little path on the right. The other way is to walk on either side of the treatment plant and follow the creek into the woods and you will see the path. These two ways you will not be in waist high growth. I have also added a hint in here.
Congrats to EpiduralGirl for the FTF honors!
