Although this is listed as a traditional cache, it is in two stages
- offering the cacher a choice of wether or not to take the extra
effort to visit the second site - go on, you wont be disapointed.
This area of coastline on the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path not only
lies within one of Britain's National Parks but also in the
National Trust's "Stackpole Estate". In total the Stackpole Estate
is nearly 2,000 acres in size with a huge variety of landscape to
enjoy, including Stackpole Woods, Bosheston Lilly Ponds and Broad
Haven Beach.
"Stackpole Quay" was constructed by the infamous Pembrokeshire
Cawdor family more than two hundred years ago. Several hundred tons
of limestone were formerly shipped from here each year and enormous
amounts of coal were imported by boat to provide fuel for the
nearby Stackpole Court. Today the harbour is mainly used by local
boatmen and as a base for adventure pursuits.
The first part of the cache is easily found within the cliffs that
form this natural harbour, just a short walk from the excellent tea
rooms and the car park. Being a National Trust site, there is a
charge of £2.50 to park during the day until 5pm. Please be aware
that because of the imposing cliffs GPS Signals are weak. Please
use the spoiler picture to assist your find.
HERE COMES THE TWIST!
A short walk across the cliffs from the quay is Barafundle Bay, a
beach recently named as the most beautiful and best family beach in
Britain by the Good Holiday Guide. The second cache can be found in
a fantastic site overlooking this beautiful bay.
To make the most of this cache, the surrounding area and your £2.50
- You MUST make the effort to visit this tremendous beach and the
second cache - GO ON Gorky's Zygotic Monkey didn't write an album
about it for nothing!
HOPE YOU ENJOY THIS EXTENDED CACHE - Team Lewy!!!
