Bandon Fire #4 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Duck-n-Deedy: checked today and this one appears to have been taken. At least its not where originally hidden and a short search found a few items that were probably in the cache. I will archive this one and place another in the area. If any recent finders had a better location where they found the cache please contact us.

Geocache Description:

some uphill walking required along a sand trail

This is the final cache in the 1936 Bandon Fire series. It is a small container which will hold small trade items and travel bugs.

From this area you can get a good view of the town and nearby lighthouse. This is across the river from the town and is an area where several people escaped to.

When the fire started to burn the town several people made their way to the Moore Mill docks where a steamer and a lighthouse tender moored. A powered lifeboat from the lighthouse tender and a twenty passenger lifeboat from the steamer, rowed by six sailors, as well as other available boats were used to ferry people to safety on the north side of the river where the lighthouse stands.

Check out the area and you can still see the remains of the lighthouse keepers house and other out buildings. During the summer months the lighthouse is opened and maintained by volunteers. At times tours are also available to go into the tower of the lighthouse.

We hope you enjoy the Bandon Fire series as well as the other caches in the area.
