Russell Crowe Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Bonch: Well, I said I'd be taking this one down by the end of the year, but it looks like Mother Nature made the call for me. Despite having the cache tied to a tree, Fanno Creek seems to have carried the container away. So thanks to all that figured out the freeway exits needed to get the coords. And the secret of this caches name, finally: I attempted to come up with a name for this cache continually for two weeks, constantly beating myself up. Much like Russell Crowe, at the time, continually beat people up. So it's just my reminder that naming a cache should be easier than it is.

Geocache Description:

You've probably been stuck at the above coordinates many times before, so I wouldn't recommend going there unless you absolutely have to. Instead, maybe consider following my trail...

Most multi caches out there involve going to a given set of coordinates, and finding a number on a sign, or counting telephone poles, or finding out what year something happened in history. I began to wonder what the most difficult multi-cache was. It seemed that there should be one that would send the cacher all over the country, if not the entire world. I decided that I would start small and just make cachers go all over the state instead to figure this one out. So off I went to find waypoints and ways to get the numbers I needed to guide people along the way.
The first stop: Valley of the Rogue River State Park. I was sure to pick up the cache that's in the rest area here. I started to count picnic tables, drinking fountains, support columns, and looking for signs I could refer people to. Having obtained the required information, I got back on the freeway, and drove back up north.
I got off the freeway at Rooster Rock in the Columbia Gorge. I never understood why there wasn't a cache here. I would at least make it a waypoint on my Ultimate Multi. So I climbed up to the top of the rock, and left a tag with further instructions on where to go next. Back in the car, I checked the map, and decided that no tour of Oregon would be complete without a trip further up the Gorge. So I hopped back on I-84 and headed east until I got off on the exit for The Dalles/Maupin. My wife and I had gone rafting in that area once, and I thought that would be a great place to send others. But as it turns out, there was something right there on the side of the road that worked out much better as a reference point. But the problem was, I would now have to do some major backtracking to the south in order to make the whole thing work
I ended up driving all the way down into California, making an impromtu U-turn, and crossing back into Oregon, pulling off at the Siskyou Summit. After counting the plastic water jugs on the side of the road, I got back in the car, and headed north. After taking the Hermiston/Umatilla exit, I didn't really see anything interesting I could use. I decided that maybe eastern Oregon didn't hold much promise for points of interest, so I decided to head closer to home. On the way back, I pulled off at Corbett to check on one of my caches, and then continued back towards my house.
I got off the freeway at Scholls Ferry Road, but then realized that I needed to get some goodies to leave in the cache, as well as a logbook. So I got back on the freeway and headed a few miles north. I saw a shopping center just off the freeway and headed down the Cedar Hills Blvd-Beaverton offramp that has been under construction since the dawn of man. Spending a bit too much money on trinkets, I decided that I'd better just finish up the cache before calling it a day. Besides, I'd already gone through almost an entire tank of gas. So I headed down I-5 to Glendale, stuck the cache, chock full of goodies, in a tree next to a creek, and called it a day.
With all that driving, I couldn't believe that I was still going to beat my wife home from work, so I stopped again, picked up a dozen roses, a bottle of wine, and cooked her a 5-star meal. Then I got on the computer, submitted my Huge MultiCache, and got immediate approval from Team Misguided. They said that it was the most well thought out and outstanding cache they had ever had the pleasure of approving.
