Geocache Description:

Park at the entrance to Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park near the intersection of Hwy 49 and Pedro Hill Road (don't leave valuables in the car - there have been break-ins here). If you make the right decisions at the trail junctions as you approach the cache then it's about a mile and a half easy walk to the cache area. The trail is also open and suitable for equestrian and mountain biking.

Many years ago when I was rafting on the South Fork American River the guides told us to watch for the lollipop tree high on the south canyon rim. When we saw the tree, we knew we would soon be entering the lower gorge where the class III rapids at Satan's Cesspool awaited us for the climax of the trip. From this cache location it should be pretty obvious which tree they were talking about. Cache is a small tupperware(tm) container with a few goodies and a logbook. Update Feb 2009 - the large wooden platform that many finders have mentioned is scheduled to be removed soon by the caretakers of the Cronan Ranch. Probably a good thing for safety's sake. The cache will not be affected. The usual Sierra foothills caveats apply: watch for rattlers and poison oak. There is no poison oak at the cache but if you decide to explore the rest of the park, be careful.
