Geocache Description:

A number of high speed firsts

br />
The Channel Tunnel Rail Link is the first new railway in England for over 60 years, and the first to operate at high speed (300Kph).

From the cache site you can see both the North Downs Tunnel and the Medway bridge.

North Downs Tunnel

The North Downs Tunnel is 3.2 km long and was the largest and deepest twin track railway tunnel ever constructed in the UK - it is able to convey high speed trains at speeds of up to 300km/h at depths reaching 100m beneath the chalk hills of the North Downs.

Medway Bridge

The 1.2km long Medway Viaduct carries high-speed trains across the Medway. The bridge, which has a main span of 152 metres is one of the longest so far projected for high-speed railways.
