This cache is in Port Allegany, PA, and was placed with the permission of the officers of the Port Allegany Fire Department. Please be careful when attempting this cache, it is a very active location at times, so stealth will be important. BRING YOUR OWN PEN OR PENCIL TO LOG THIS CACHE. A very brief history of the Star Hose Company #1 Formed in 1885 and chartered by the state on 21 Sept 1886. The first hose rooms were completed on 4 Jan 1886. In 1894, on the corner of Mill and Pearl Streets, a new "city building" was built to house the hose company and the local government. The first motorized apparatus in service with Star Hose was a 1917 Model A Ford, until that time, it took man and horse power to operate the equipment. Today, the deparment operates 2 Engines, 1 Medium Rescue truck, 1 Tanker, and 1 Utility/Brush truck. The current station was built in 1957, with a 3 bay engine room and a banquet room added on on 1983. The Port Allegany Fire Department is one of only a few fire departments in McKean County that are participating in the PA Fire Commissioner's Voluntary Certification Program.
