A Little Piece of Heaven Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

lz33: Since this geocache has been unavailable for months, I'm archiving the listing to keep it from showing up in search lists and preventing proximity issues for new geocache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the geocache in the immediate future, contact a volunteer reviewer (by email), and assuming it meets the current guidelines, we'll un-archive it.

Geocache Description:

The geocache can be accessed from many different directions but I am recommending 2 ways that are fun and challenging yet keeps the geocache hunter away from private property. The cache is located within the Rum Creek Wildlife Management Area on Lake Juliette. I like to use topographical maps when I hide or hunt a cache but to my surprise I could not find a topo map of this area and ended up getting a maritime map online from www.fishingGPSmaps.com. I have been coming to this location for years now and it is a great place for peaceful reflection. If you hunt for the geocache and in the process see a long red kayak on the lake its probably me - gakayaker.

Route 1

You can access the geocache on public property on the WMA by parking on HWY 18. Please take notice of any signs that say “No Parking” or “Private Property.”
Be careful parking and exiting your vehicle because I have seen cars and trucks fly around the curves in the road. You will notice a gate at an old abandoned grassy road nearby but it is on private property and there are several “No Parking” signs so don’t try and park there to start the hunt. After parking, enter the woods at the following coordinates: N 33 01.447 W 83 46.041. If you enter the woods at those coordinates then you should be on WMA land. Travel until you reach the following coordinates : N 33 01.484 W 83 45.979. Bushwhacking may be needed at the beginning of this hunt so please keep this in mind when you plan your hunt. The next step is to travel to the next set of coordinates : N 33 01.520 W 83 45.954. If you go past these coordinates you will wind up on private property so be careful. Once you arrive at those coordinates, turn to face North and follow the path to the next waypoint : N 33 01.690 W 83 46.027. At those coordinates you should see a fenced area with an open gate. I am not sure what it was used for or why it is even there but maybe someone seeking the geocache can answer that question for me. At the fenced area, continue traveling to your North until you reach the geocache location. When you start poking around for the ammo can please look carefully before you reach and place your hand somewhere. I have been coming here for years and have never seen a snake but I am sure that they are out there. After finding the cache, please take the time to make sure it is well hidden.

Route 2

This is my preferred route because it is on water. I used my kayak to reach the geocache but any water craft would be acceptable. Please keep in mind that Lake Juliette does enforce a 25-horsepower limit for boat motors. You can start your trek at the Dames Ferry Park/Boat Landing. There is a 3 dollar parking fee. After you get under way on the water you can point your boat to the southwest and travel straight to the geocache location. After finding the cache, please take the time to make sure it is well hidden.
