Geocache Description:

AN OFFSET CACHE LOCATED IN THE VILLAGE OF WEST QUACO.
THIS WAS THE FIRST CACHE OF THIS TYPE PLACED IN NB.

The above co-ordinates take you to a property on West Quaco Rd. where you will find a number of the area’s long time residents. Park in front of the gate by the picket fence and walk in. You will need to find Capt. Robert McLean. He never leaves the property but he does spend most of his time in the yard so you will have to look for him. Don’t bother yelling, he is stone deaf. His wife Martha is with him. If you stay long enough you will get a great story about the sinking of the American schooner ‘Arcana’ off Quaco Head and the dirt on all of their neighbors as well. Specifically you should find about Mrs. Euphemia Marchbanks and her little girl who never leaves her side.

Find out from the Capt how old he was on his last birthday. Martha will tell you the year that she was born but she gave up long ago telling anyone how old she is, she expects you to be able to do the math. Not so with Euphemia who is more than happy to tell you exactly how old she was on her last birthday (I think she had to develop a thick skin with a name like Euphemia) as is her daughter.

Use the information you’ve received in the following equation:

Add together the ages of Capt Bob (A) and Euphemia (B), then add the 3 digit number of the month and day that the ‘Arcana’ sunk (C) (ex. Feb 14 would =214) and the number of survivors of that tragedy (D). To this number add 423 to find (X).
So A+B+C+D+423= X

Add together the year that the ‘Arcana’ sunk (E) and the year that Capt Bob’s wife Martha was born (F) along with the age of Euphemia’s daughter in years only (G). From this subtract 2893 to find (Y).
So (E)+(F)+(G)-2893= Y

N 45° 19. (X)
W 65° 32. (Y)

These co-ordinates will lead you to the final cache, a small camo’d PB container.

AUG 2012 NOTE: This cache was originally known as ‘Living on the Ledge’ but has been modified from its original form due to the coastal trail becoming too overgrown and unsafe. Because this was the FIRST cache in NB to use this method for gathering co-ords I did not want to archive it and start with a new cache so anyone who has logged a previous find can go ahead and do so again as the final location is completely different. Thanks to all those cachers intrepid enough to have logged a find on the original version. This incarnation is not nearly as challenging or as interesting which sadly means it will appeal to far more geocachers.

Checksums:

AS ALWAYS LEAVE CACHE AS WELL OR BETTER HIDEN THAN YOU FOUND IT!
